Although it seems the disposable diaper industry is making strides to change some of the issues associated with their diapers, the strides are not big enough.  There are alternatives to the chemically laced disposables.  If you are completely averse to using cloth diapers, there are organic disposables.  One green company makes such a product and they are good diapers.  Many families prefer to use disposables while traveling and this would be a good option for them.  Free of chemicals and will probably decompose much quicker.  Although not as eco friendly as cloth, when you’re in a pinch, they will suffice.
